WEEK TWO – Family Leadership: The Power of Training

Creating Magic by Lee Cockerell

Join Us – Tuesday, December 14th, 2010. 8pm mst – 9pm mst

Tuesday, December 14th, 2010.

Family Leadership: The Power of Training
Last week we talked about improving people skills and developing an organization to build success. Now we are going to discuss how we get those people to work better within the organization. For families it means getting your kids to buy into the organization and work better within your rules.  HOW DO YOU DO THAT??? Well, in the corporate world, if someone doesn’t fit, you let them go. In your family you can’t do that, so it all comes down to one skill that we will focus on…Training.

 You will walk away with:

  • ·         A more clear picture of what you want to accomplish in your family. (A family “mission statement.”)
  • ·         Understand how to get your family to buy into that mission.
  • ·         Develop clear expectations for your family.
  • ·         And be introduced to a system that may help people in your family get along better with each other!
  • ·         Define your role as a teacher and an example in the home.

Again, you can see the obvious ties to business. We will even spend a few minutes talking about how to make sure you have the right people on board. In a family, you get what you get…so we will really focus on how to get the most effectiveness out of what you have. Join us as we work together to become complete leaders: your self, your family, and your career!

Personnel Development: A Lesson In Dealing with Difficult People

Sitting last night on my son’s bed I saw the picture that hangs above his bed. It is a picture from about 1918 of one of the most famous people in American history. You have probably heard of him. He was the best at what he did, perhaps the best ever at what he did. So good in fact that he changed history and impacted the whole country for decades. The lesson of this man for you has everything to do with how you develop people because it will make all the difference for you and your future. Because that man was the greatest baseball player of all time, the Babe Ruth. And the story of his life in 1918-1919 changed the course of literally millions of people, all because of the way two people decided to treat him.

The Scouting Adventure: Being True

The famous blue and gold. It was in full splendor yesterday for the first time ever on my just-turned-eight year old son. It was his first day of Scouts and he was really excited. We have the book. We have the shirt. We have all the patches (although they are not all sewed on yet!). We have the neckerchief and the neckerchief slide. He got an email from his Scout leader informing him of the date, time, location and that he needed to wear his uniform and bring his book. What happened next, is very important for your family or business! (more…)

How Did This Happen to Me?

How could this happen to me?

I’ve made my mistakes

Got nowhere to run

The night goes on

As I’m fading away

I’m sick of this life

I just wanna scream

How could this happen to me?

Lyrics from a song by the group Simple Plan. I was listening to this song the other day and was really struck by the message of this song, if you change just two little words in there…”sick of” to “blessed in.” (more…)

The Most Important Lesson From Running I Have Learned Yet. And You Better Learn It Too! (And probably today!)

It was an exciting morning. I had been looking forward to it for weeks. I was going to run fifteen miles this morning. It was the longest I had ever run. For days I was getting ready with what I was going to eat in the morning, what I was going to wear, what the weather was going to be like. So much preparation went into this morning. I got up an hour early and did a lot to get ready. But I failed in perhaps the most important thing I needed to have done and be ready for in my big run. And boy, did I come to regret it! The only solace was that I learned a heck of a lesson. (more…)

Taking One Step Back, and How Many Steps Forward?

Turns out my wife and I are very different! One thing that is a big difference is in our running preference. She loves to run with someone, to have the companionship and camaraderie of a running partner. She gets to talk with and cheer someone on. Me on the other hand, I love to run all by myself. That is part of why I go running! I just love to put in my ear phones and be all by myself for a nice quiet experience. No talking, no thinking about conversation, just running and listening and thinking. I plan on having a great book on my iPod the morning of my marathon and spending about 3 hours listening to a book. I am so looking forward to it! (more…)
